ikea office makeover

FILED IN: personal, photographers

My IKEA office makeover is in progress and finally at a stage where I can decorate!! Our huge stack of cardboard boxes is now finally put together in the form of furniture after hours and hours of assembly. But I love it, so it’s worth it. 🙂

I painted the originally ugly tanish-yellowish walls to a dark grey, which really made the room pop! I was nervous that it would make the space too dark and look small, but it kind of had the opposite effect, especially with the large window, wood floors, and crown molding.

If no other reason, IKEA should be in STL because I alone could keep them in business. Or at least work there.) 😉 I am missing the wall bridging shelf because we accidentally left Chicago without double checking that that one box out of like 20 was in the U-Haul, so next time we roadtrip up there, we’ll be picking that piece up.

I swapped all of my drawer pulls with these cute blush pulls from World Market. They look just like the ones from Anthropologie, but are almost 1/4 of the price.

The glitter vases and the gold mason jars were DIY projects. Glitterfying is probably the world’s easiest DIY project – you just need glass vases (dollar store is just fine!), glossy mod podge, a foam brush, and Martha Stewart glitter. Put a thin coat of the mod podge on the inside of the vase with the foam brush, spread glitter around (make sure you have newspaper down), turn it upside down to remove the excess glitter, and let dry upright. I used two coats of mod podge + glitter, and apparently since mod podge is a sealer, you don’t need an actual sealant. We’ll see! One jar of Martha Stewart glitter will do three vases with two coats! 🙂 The gold mason jars are just mason jars spray painted with gold spray paint (two coats).

My slate coasters were $2.99 at Michaels, and my cute coffee cup is from Anthropologie. My AFP letters are 9 inch letters from Restoration Hardware. I’m searching for a replacement F since I didn’t realize they sold two different finishes when I picked up the boxes! And my white lace cups, flower bowl + wood-wrapped balls are from IKEA.

I’m planning to do a large collage above my desk with a little client workflow chart, goal chart, inspirational quotes, etc. with different sized white frames I bought from Michaels + Target. I also have the Ung Drill Frame that I spray painted that will go on the wall by the door, the Kristaller Chandelier that I’ll hang in place of the current light fixture, and sheer pink curtains that need to be hung. I’m still looking for the perfect white desk chair, white couch, and pink accessories, so if you have an ideas, please let me know in the comments! I can’t wait to decorate now and show off the finished office in a future blog post! 🙂

Now I’m off to meet with a gorgeous bride about her winery wedding this fall!! Have a fabulous day!

Fun stuff! Do you ever shop at Homegoods? It’s one of my favorite stores for home decor… adorable and afforadable! =)

I’ve never been to an Ikea, but I want to go sooo sooo badly! I love the canvases you’ve hung on the walls, and I love the dark grey behind them! I think it makes them pop alot 🙂

I have such office envy right now! I’m trying to think of ways to convince Richard that glitter in the office really is a good thing.

This is adorable! I don’t have space for an office either, but I will be getting a new “area” soon, and I can’t wait! It will have to match the decor of the rest of the house, so pink is probably out, but I am seriously crushing on those adorable drawer pulls 🙂

I know that this is an old post, but I’m really hoping you can tell me what color paint you used on the walls. Love!
